Let’s face it, we’re not all professional interior designers, but with a little bit of advice we can transform our home, even with the slightest adjustments. While most of us are now staying home, there are a few things we can shuffle around to make it aesthetically pleasing.
There are several design mistakes that we make, mainly because we think they make sense, but are not looking at it from a designer’s perspective. Here are some tricks you can make right now without the need for anything new…
Move Furniture
Believe it or not, the closer your furniture is to the wall, the smaller the room appears. Everything in life needs breathing space — this applies to objects and even in the graphic design world. Simply pull out your furniture including couches, bookshelves, and tables to give them the space they need.
Decrease Clutter
We assume decluttering is on the top of everyone’s quarantine list already. Clutter itself causes discomfort so the quicker you can get organise, the sooner you can relax during this time of unease. If you do not have storage boxes available, opt for any hidden nook and cranny in your home to store things you don’t need.
Shift Your TV
If your television is blocking any natural light, shift it so that it’s placed in front of a blank wall. Mounting it on the wall gives it a cleaner look if that’s an option for you.
Bring in Colour
Some rooms might be too dark and dull so adding colours, both neutral and/or bright will make a big difference. You might not be able to pick up anything new, but there’s no reason why you can’t shuffle things around from room to room. For example, if there’s a plant in your kitchen or living room, bring it into your dark space to give it some light. Even if you don’t have a dark room, this is still a good thing to do to switch things up as change is good.
These are simple adjustments, but necessary to enhance your life at home both physically and mentally.
