A Healthy Home Needs Light

In our last article we talked about ways to brighten your home, but one thing that triumphs all key factors of a healthy home is light and it is often overlooked. We are human and need natural sunlight to thrive – our retinas have receptors that absorb light sending signals to our brain that affects our schedules and moods.

Since the majority of the population spends most of their time indoors, circadian lighting was invented so we can avoid artificial light that is not aligned with our biology. Following the patterns of the sun & our circadian rhythms, LED circadian lighting is bright when we need to feel energised and it warms down when it is time to unwind and relax. It basically runs in harmony with our internal clock. You’ll be happy to know that this great invention is both affordable and beneficial to our well being hence why it is a hot trend in both homes and offices today.

Benefits of circadian lighting includes:

  • Improve sleep patterns
  • Reduce anxiety and hyperactivity
  • Improve mood, productivity, and concentration
  • Increase morning alertness

It goes without saying that natural light offers the most benefits so bringing in more sunlight to a home (or office) is the most effective way to utilise its effects. However, if additional windows or skylights aren’t an option, circadian lighting is the way to go. Just like with a healthy diet, if we feed the body what it needs (light in this case), it will perform better.
