How to Remove Bad Odours from Your Refrigerator

We’ve all been there and have opened our refrigerator to a foul smell coming from something that’s been in there just a little too long. Sour milk and rotten broccoli tend to be some of the worst smells! So what can you do about it? Firstly, find the culprit and chuck it away..fast.

Chances are that the odour will linger for a few hours to days since it’s confined to an enclosed space. You can make your own Fridge Fresheners to keep on hand when things get unpleasant. They are easy, natural, and will leave your fridge smelling clean and fresh.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • ⅓ cup of water
  • 1 tsp of essential oil of your choice
  • Muffin tin, preferably silicone
  • Bowl & spoon

Step One:

Add all ingredients to a bowl & mix well to reach a sandy consistency. If the mixture is too dry, add a little more water and if it is too wet, add a little more baking soda.

Step Two:

Scoop the mixture into a muffin tin and press firmly on each mould to ensure it is compacted. Depending on the muffin tin size, you can expect to make around 3-4 fridge freshener discs.

Step Three:

Leave the fresheners in the tin at room temperature for up to 48 hours until they dry & harden.

Step Four:

Once the freshener discs are dry and firm, store them away in a tupperware container for future use. If you are ready to use one straight away then place one on a plate and position it in the back of your fridge and wait for the next time you open your fridge for a pleasant surprise!
