When it comes to renting a property, very few people can make major enhancements to their rental and even if they can, they tend not to since it’s not a permanent home where they see the expense as an investment. However, if one is planning on staying in a home for over a year, it’s worth making a home comfortable and homey to their style.
Home updates don’t always cost a fortune and they can be temporary without making any permanent changes that the landlord would disapprove of. The kitchen is a great place to start making changes seeing it is probably the most used place in your home where you start and end your day (apart from waking and sleeping). These simple updates will brighten your kitchen up in no time and you may even be inclined to cook more!
Display your kitchenware
If you have pretty glasses, show them off in an open cupboard. If you have nice-looking pots & pans, show them off on a hanging rack. If you have cool mugs, show them off on a free-standing rack or a hanging rack too. Displaying some kitchenware doesn’t just give your kitchen character, it shows guests that your kitchen gets used and it may make things easier for you when cooking.
Peel-and-stick wallpaper & flooring
Some rentals come with funny wall and floor colours and most landlords wouldn’t be keen on renovating these as its non-essential boiling down to preference. Luckily there is temporary wallpaper and flooring that sticks on and can easily be removed by peeling when it comes time to move out. Some come in creative patterns and are much more professional looking than you’d imagine. You can even get vinyl that looks like wood to give your kitchen a natural feel.
Fill it with plants
Plants bring a house to life…literally. Most homes have plants in the living room and bedrooms, but not so much in the kitchen. Kitchens are a great place to display plants, especially on the windowsill. If you want to make the most of them, opt for herbs to give your dishes fresh seasoning.
Change Lighting
You can easily change lightbulbs in a rental property and there’s a big difference between the three types on the market – ambient, utility, and accent. Utility lighting is the best for the kitchen to ensure you have the most visibility when cooking. There are also strip lights and hanging lights that you can install (and remove easily) to give your kitchen a bit of ambience.
