Recipe: Refreshing Classic Lemonade

Seeing it’s citrus harvesting time in Australia, you might have too many citrus fruits that you don’t know what to do with at the moment. Rather than just composting them, get creative in the kitchen! If you’re overloaded with oranges, why not make juice? If you’re overloaded with lemons, why not make lemonade? Lemonade is a drink that can be enjoyed during any season and it’s said to have been around since the 17th century. From way back when, this drink was always simple to make with only needing lemon, water, & sugar. Over the years, we’ve become more experimental with our food and drink, but classic (or vintage) lemonade will never go out of flavour.

Serving: 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • 5 Lemons
  • 5 Cups of Water
  • 1 ¼ Cups of Sugar

Directions:

  1. Peel the lemon rinds from all lemons and cut into ½ inch slices
  2. Pour the sugar of the rinds in a bowl and leave it to sit for one hour.
  3. Boil 5 cups of water. Once boiled, mix with the sugar & rinds. After 20 minutes, remove the rinds.
  4. Juice the 5 lemons with & strainer. Add lemon juice to the water & sugar mixture then put it in the fridge to cool.
  5. Enjoy with ice!
