The Secret Tricks to Cleaning Grout

Grout, the paste that fills gaps between tiles & walls, gets dirty very easily and can be tricky to clean. You can use a grout cleaning product, but they aren’t that effective and smell pretty horrible so it’s worth trying alternative methods. We’ve looked into a few of the options, including natural solutions, and found these to be the best alternative grout cleaners…

Equal parts of baking soda & hydrogen peroxide

This natural solution is great for grout and works for various household cleaning chores. Baking soda helps remove the dirt stuck in the grout without causing damage while the hydrogen peroxide brightens & disinfects surfaces.

Directions: Sprinkle baking soda onto grout until it is covered, spray with hydrogen peroxide until it is wet, wait 10 minutes, scrub, and wipe clean.

Vanish Napisan Gold Pro Stain Removal Powder

While it’s not natural and still costs a bit, at least Napisan has another use at home. We found this recommendation from Rebekka Ladner of Queen of Clean, and below is an image of just how efficient her method is.

Directions: Add two scoops of Vanish Napisan Gold Pro Stain Removal Powder to a bucket of water, spread mixture over the tiles/grout, scrub, and wipe clean.

Whichever method you decide to use, we highly suggest picking up a grout brush for the scrubbing to get deep into the cracks. You can find these brushes at your local Bunnings. Good luck!
